It’s been yet another weird week in the world: Google AI wants us to try "non-toxic glue" to make our pizza taste better to teenaged orcas being, well, teenagers.
Germany first-ever photo
WHERE?
Munich, Germany
WHAT?
Germany’s oldest photograph may actually be two years older than previously thought. Munich’s Deutsches Museum presented a photograph it found in its archives, depicting the city’s Frauenkirche church. Evidence now seems to confirm that the image was taken in 1837 by mineralogist Franz von Kobell. Along with physicist Carl August von Steinheil, Kobell was known as a pioneer of early photographic and photochemistry procedures, but the images of the two men from 1839 had so far been considered the oldest.
North Korea sends South Korea ballons filled with what now?
WHERE?
South Korea
WHAT?
Like any other petty neighbor, North Korea has escalated its antics and sent more than 150 balloons filled with trash and manure into South Korea. The balloons arrived on Wednesday after North Korean Vice Minister of Defense Kim Kang-il warned of retaliation if South Korea continued to drop anti-North Korean leaflets.
So basically, Google AI is just a Redditor
WHERE?
Internet
WHAT?
Google's experimental AI Overviews has been suggesting people to, among other things, add “non-toxic glue” to their pizza to make the cheese stick better. The AI is believed to have been sourcing its information from Reddit comments or articles written by satire website The Onion. Besides these minor slip-ups, Google insisted that the feature was generally working well.
Orcas just wanna have fun
WHERE?
The Sea?
WHAT?
Over the last five years, orcas have been ramming and sinking ships in Spain, Portugal, France and Morocco — leading people to start theorizing that the orcas were reclaiming the sea and fighting overfishing. But recently, a multinational group of experts led by Spain and Portugal concluded that the submarine mayhem was caused by teenage orcas who were just having a little fun. Renaud de Stephanis, one of the authors of the study, explained: “The sea is very boring place for animals.” Don't tell that to ship captains getting rammed by killer whales.
Can he be convicted of "dumb driving"?
WHERE?
Michigan, United States
WHAT?
A Michigan judge was left speechless as Corey Harris, on trial for driving with a suspended license, logged in to his Zoom court appointment… while driving. The judge, clearly dumbfounded, confirmed with Harris' lawyer that this was indeed a case of suspended license, before saying in utter disbelief, "I don’t know why he would do that." The judge revoked Harris's bond and ordered him to surrender to the county police station that same day.
